Joey Chestnut could very well make his return to Coney Island on the Fourth of July -- the world's greatest eater is currently in talks with organizers to compete in the Nathan's Hot Dog contest this year.
TMZ Sports is told Jaws and Major League Eating are actively negotiating to get the 16-time champion back doing what he does best on Independence Day ... and from the sounds of it, both sides want to get it done.
We're told the initial rift that caused Chestnut's absence from the 2024 contest -- his sponsorship deal with Impossible Foods -- is not a factor in discussions.
11:12 AM PT -- Riley Gaines got wind of Simone Biles' latest remarks ... accepting the Olympian's apology for her "personal attacks," but making it clear they still do not see eye to eye on the core issue.

The plane crash that took the life of dirt track racing legend Scott Bloomquist has been ruled a suicide.
According to a National Transportation Safety Board final report, obtained by TMZ Sports ... Bloomquist appeared to intentionally fly his aircraft into a barn on his family property in Moorseburg, Tenn. "as an act of suicide."
Officials wrote in the report the cause of death was blunt force injuries.
UFC honcho Dana White -- who is helping promote the fight -- dropped the announcement on his X account on Tuesday ... expressing his excitement to be involved in this event.

Marcus Jordan will not have his DUI case go to trial later this month as initially planned ... TMZ Sports has learned the date's been pushed back a few months -- after Michael's son requested the postponement.
Court documents we obtained show back on June 2, Jordan and his attorneys asked a judge to move his trial from its original June 23 start time. Jordan wanted it rescheduled, in part, so he could have more time to engage in plea negotiations with prosecutors.

The docs state prosecutors did not oppose the motion ... and on June 3, a judge granted Jordan's request -- setting a new trial date for the beginning of September.
Xyere Brooks -- a high school football star in New Jersey -- tragically lost his life during a shooting on Friday, authorities announced.
He was just 16 years old.
According to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office, cops responded to a report of gunfire at a Camden residence ... and found Brooks suffering from a bullet wound.
